How to get a drone permit in Morocco: a complete guide
The usage of drones in Morocco is heavily regulated and several restrictions on the usage of drones apply due to national security reasons. In general the procedure for taking your own drone into Morocco is therefore highly discouraged. We therefore only recommend starting this procedure in case your production requires a very specific kind of drone which would not be available in the country by one of the existing supplier companies who have the required drone licenses.

Procedures for drone film permits
1. UAV pilot license and insurance:
While Morocco does not officially require a specific UAV pilot license, it is advisable that any drone pilot holds a recognized license, such as those from EASA (EU) or the FAA (USA). Additionally, all drone pilots must have UAV insurance that covers the specific drone model they will be operating.
2. Local authorization:
Foreign pilots must obtain permission from a local drone license holder before operating a drone in Morocco. This is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, considering the flight experience of the foreign pilot.
3. Application for drone permit:
To obtain a drone permit, you must apply for permission specifying the exact GPS coordinates, date, and time of the intended flight. Authorities will conduct a security assessment based on these details. It is advisable to allow at least 10 days for the permit process, in addition to the time required for securing your film permit.
4. Filming and drone permits:
A drone permit can only be obtained after securing a general film permit (CCM). This may cause delays, so planning ahead is crucial.
5. Restricted areas:
Flying drones near military, royal, and other sensitive sites is often restricted or requires heightened security measures, such as police and military surveillance. Sensitive sites include ports, airports, military areas, royal palaces, and government buildings. These areas often coincide with popular filming locations in cities like Marrakech, Casablanca, Ouarzazate, Rabat, and Tangier.
